A glove to operate wearable computers

Reading Engadget this morning, I stumbled across something rather interesting not only for myself, but for some of my colleagues here at Project54. Oszkar Palinko is heavily into research and experimentation using a glove for push to talk for the Project54 system. There is a local company called RallyPoint that has taken a glove that …

Experiences in Boulder, CO

So a couple weeks ago, my colleague Ivan Elhart and I got to join Dr.Miller and Dr.Kun on a journey to Colorado for the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) conference. What can I say, it was a fabulous time. We arrived on Wednesday at 11pm (local time), so we just had time to grab some …

Project54 on a PDA

Hello eceblogger readers! I recently created a video of an officer from the Lee NH Police Department using the PDA in conjunction with the PC version of Project54 in his car. Thought you might be interested in what might be lurking around the crest of that hill. Fekete András

Matlab peculiarities

Hello readers! So while working on my Neural Networks homework, I stumbled across an interesting problem when using the surf command in Matlab. Try running the following commands: Xi = -2 + [0:20]*0.2; Xj = -2 + [0:20]*0.2; X = zeros(2,size(Xi,2)*size(Xj,2)); for i = 1:size(Xi,2) n = (i-1) * size(Xj,2); for j = 1:size(Xj,2) X(:,n …

Travels in Hungary

Hello readers! I come to you with a post on my travels in Hungary. This summer I had the opportunity to vacation there. For those of you wishing for a change of scenery from UNH, I suggest you take advantage of the exchange program offered by UNH to go visit BUTE (Budapest University of Technology and Economics). The program is perfectly compatible with your …

Ad-hoc wireless connectivity issues

Hello ECE blogger readers! Once again I’m here with a technical issue that was tough to trace and eliminate. It involved a Symbol MC50 PDA and a Linksys WUSB54G wireless adapter. The trouble I had was reconnecting the PDA to the access point in ad-hoc mode. It was possible to get an initial connection by setting up an ad-hoc network with the PDA, enabling the wireless …

PowerPoint presentations

My fellow ECE Bloggers! I come to you with a neat site about tips on how to do PowerPoint presentations. This concept has never been my strong suit but the guy points out some things to think about when creating those slides. It’s worth a read! András Fekete

PDA wireless chat

Hello again readers! It is I, András Fekete coming to you with another interesting application. During the summer, I was working on a program involving PDAs, wireless, and voice communication. I have developed this program called WiChatter. It uses a wireless ad-hoc network and constantly monitors who is nearby on the network using the same …

Symbol MC50 battery

So get this…. A couple months ago, I thought I bricked one of my Symbol PDAs at work. Yeah, people made fun of me for being a bit thorough in my testing. As it turned out, it was nothing I had done. Only today had I found out what the true nature of the problem was. When the battery gets low, the PDA for some reason shuts itself off. When you press the power …

Scientific videos

Hello eceblogger readers! I am an avid reader of the news site slashdot.org (commonly known as /.) which had an article I thought to share with you all. It was a link to sciencehack.com which is a site that contains links to videos submitted by the public on the popular site youtube and Metacafe. One …
